This is Scripture Roundtable 179 from The Interpreter Foundation, in which we discuss the Book of Mormon Gospel Doctrine Lesson #35, Repent and Return unto the Lord, focusing on scriptures in Helaman 13-16, bringing in various insights to help us better understand the scriptures. These roundtables will generally follow the 2016 Gospel Doctrine schedule of scriptures, a few weeks ahead of time.

  1. The scriptures do not say that it’s a stone or brick wall.
    This was a time of peace. Samuel could have gotten on the wall, meaning into one of the towers that ARE described in the Book of Mormon. The walls of defense are described in detail.
    Alma 53:4
    And he caused that they should build a breastwork of timbers upon the inner bank of the ditch; and they cast up dirt out of the ditch against the breastwork of timbers; and thus they did cause the Lamanites to labor until they had encircled the city of Bountiful round about with a strong wall of timbers and earth, to an exceeding height.
